Abstract: The issue of management and control of manufacturing cells based on Theory of Constraints(TOC)was surveyed and reviewed. Firstly, current domestic and international research status of TOC, such as bottleneck identification, drum schedule, time buffer, transfer batch, rope schedule and buffer management, were expatiated. Then, some problems of the existing studies, such as shifting bottleneck control, multi-bottleneck scheduling, dynamic buffer management, push/pull production control, were concluded from the research status nowadays. Finally, taking the research situation and development of production management and control of manufacturing cells in China into consideration, four areas should be highlighted in the future studies, such as establishment of measurement index system, quantitative research strategy of TOC, system integration method and system implementation technologies. Furthermore, some key problems in above-mentioned areas were discussed.
