Abstract: Currently, many Workflow Management Systems (WfMS) lack the capability of preserving the transactional characteristics of the workflow. It is an important reason for the workflow pervasion and practicability. In this paper, a comprehensive data consistency protecting framework oriented to the three kinds of workflow data is introduced. It includes the failure operation patterns for workflow control data, the multi-version management mechanism for workflow relevant data and the lock protocol for workflow application data. Under this framework, the WfMS will be provided with the powerful and available transaction capability and can keep the consistency of the workflow data.
