Abstract: In this paper, the state-of-art of the mould and die industry in China is introduced and the tendency of the world market is briefly analyzed at first. Then the franchise business mode is put forward as a feasible approach to reform the mould and die manufacturers in China and the specific demands from this business mode are expressed upon the manufacturing system. Considering the philosophy of grid computing, this paper presents a new paradigm called grid-manufacturing system matching to the franchising business mode. After that, the fundamental framework of the grid-manufacturing system is investigated in detail. The research, development and implementation of the grid-manufacturing system provides a realizable way to franchising in the mould and die industry. As a result, the competitive ability of the industry can be promoted.
